Brass Souls

  • What do you get when you combine two teachers, a liney, a cabinet maker, a diver, and an engineer?

You get a whole lot of “Brass Souls”. “Brass Souls” was thought up by Scott “Womby” McConnell 6 years ago while playing in original funk band “Weezil”, inspired by the growing trend of “Brasshouse” music that predominantly features wind instruments. Brass instruments are often used in many bands punching out key melodic lines or harmonies, while “Brasshouse” flips this formula to make these instruments take the lead, sometimes supported by guitar and vocals. Whilst Scott had this dream, it is only made possible by having the musicians who can play these instruments – often a challenge in remote Australia.

With the arrival of Manny “Escobar” Katz, Colin “Rusty” Campbell and local drummer Sam “Vanders” Vanderwal, Scott was able to combine with local “Horn Union” Shannon “Milker” Miller and Adam “Donald” Beames to create what is now the “Brass Souls”.

The band itself consists of Trumpet, Tenor Saxophones, Trombone, Baritone Saxophone and Drum kit and performs a range of music arranged for and made popular by groups such as Lucky Chops, Broken Brass Ensemble, and Youngblood Brass Band. The “Brasshouse” genre is inspired by a mix of jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, funk, EDM and house music which is always high energy and makes you want to dance.

Danger Fog

  • In 2020 the new residents of Sheringa would get together and play music. They found themselves jamming at least once a week until early hours of the morning. On Autumn mornings when the wind blows offshore, the fog would emerge. On more than one occasion a few neighbours found themselves getting lost in the fog on their way back home. And so Danger Fog became the name of the band. The band consists of maybe 30 plus members. Pretty much if you live in sheringa you’re in the band. If you’ve jammed in sheringa, you’re in the band. It’s transient and fluid meaning the band members come and go and they find themselves dabbling in most musical genres. Today they have acquired a few key players together to bring to you the jamming vibes from Sheringa!
